Learning with TOPJOY: is Waterproof flooring TRUELY waterproof?

In today’s flooring market, there are many manufacturers and suppliers are touting the Water-proof or Water-Ressitant feature of their flooring proucts. From LVT dry back to WPC floors to SPC floors, even for laminate floors, people are marketing the products with its Waterproofness.

However, it does not mean that moisture will not affect the physical properties of the product.

What we have found out is that the term “waterproof” means it is protected from the top down for moisture, not from the bottom up. These “waterproof” products are not made to solve high subfloor moisture issues as they too can have issues such as cupping and bowing, just like hardwood when exposed to high moisture. If the flooring is flooded, it will void the warranty of the “waterproof” product.

In the pictures below you can see the high concrete moisture reading per the Tramex Meter. It has pegged the Tramex Meter as high as it can go. The picture of the flooring is the result of high moisture on a “waterproof” product.

So the subfloor preparation is playing a crtitial role in terms of making a real Waterproof flooring. Your or your flooring installer must not ingore the moisture contains in the subfloor. And it is highly recommend to dry the subfloor properly before installation. You may also use moisture-resitant underlayment to insultate the subfloor before laydown your flooring.

TOPJOY SPC flooring with moisture-resisstant underlay could be a good solution.
